Build a Circuit

Open and close the switch, add batteries, and drop parts in the gap until you can light the bulb and turn it off two different ways.

  1. 01Build a complete circuit that lights the bulb.
  2. 02Change the number of batteries and describe what happens to the brightness.
  3. 03Break the circuit in two different places and compare the results.
  4. 04Explain what every working circuit has to have.

  1. 01

    Light the bulb.

You need a battery, a closed switch, and something in the gap that lets electricity through.

  2. 02

Light it using only one battery.

It will work, it will just be dim.

  3. 03

Make the bulb brighter without changing the object in the gap.

    Add another battery.

  4. 04

Make it as bright as it will go.

    Three batteries in a row.

  5. 05

Turn the bulb off using only the switch.

Leave the battery and the conductor exactly where they are, and open the switch.

  6. 06

Turn the bulb off a second way, without touching the switch.

Put something in the gap that does not let electricity through.
